Stop Motion

Stop motion is an animated technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played in continuous sequence.

Here are some great pieces of work to look at, and make sure you don't miss the link to Roy Ksopp's video at the bottom of this blog.

"Lego" by Julian May

"Her morning Elegance" by Oren Lavie

"Tony V's Paul"

Xavier Chassing creates a magical film called "Scintillation" using over 35,000 photographs

"Irregular Flow" by 4khz from Istanbul

"What else is there?" by Roy Ksopps. This video is amazing, and has to be my favourite by far and depicts the strange dream-state travel of the subject across equally as strange landscapes. You will need to click in this link to play the clip, but it is well worth it

Local Sydnay stills photographer and TVC director Bruce Allan displays an intergrated promotion that ran in archive magazine. He was looking for a solution that worked in both still and moving images. The Canon 5D Mark II was the perfect choice as it can combine both HD movie with stills. The animation was made by pulling still frames from a video.
